I've recorded one and three fourths songs this week. The first finished song is called "Jason Cheese" and can be heard at my myspace (http://myspace.com/emilcohnmusic). It's part of my planned group of songs based on stories I have been told by others. This comes from a coworker. I ran the idea by him to see how he felt and he was upset only that I didn't use more off color stories.
With this project, I plan to share my creative process with anyone who cares to listen. For "Jason Cheese," I used my Old Kraftsman archtop acoustic guitar, my Guild S-100 electric recorded through my Ampeg VT-22 with the reverb dimed. These instruments were recorded with my Nady RSM-4 ribbon microphone, through my Yamaha PM-400 mixer (transformers!) and on to my Yamaha MT-100 cassette four track. My home made Frankenstein Baritone Guitar (FrankenBari) went through a DS1 direct into the PM-400 and on to the tape. The drum machine is a Yamaha RX11 ran through the PM-400 for some EQ doctor stuff. All delays were from a Boss DD6 pedal.
The song that's almost done is called something I'm sure, but I don't know right now. I've made the leap to using the drum machine in stereo. Thanks to Yamaha's amazing routing options on the MT-100 I've been able to record two acoustics, stereo drum machine, electric guitar, two backing vocals and the main vocal with only one bounce (the left signal of the the drum machine bounced with a fresh acoustic guitar. The main vocal still needs to be recorded. This is always the longest part of the process for me, and I caught a summer cold this week.
